Black Beat 08 - Part 3 .......
August 14, 2008 (Thursday) was a great day in Baltimore. Previous night, we met several old friends who arrived at hotel a day earlier like us. This is 6th year of Black Beat event. It was created for people of color without excluding others and it seems that it is serving a much needed purpose and moving forward. Like all the BDSM/Leather event, one can sense a buzz in the air and an atmosphere of festivities.
The registration started early in the evening and I was surprised to see how many people were being registered early. We met several old friends from last year. The Watering Hole-Poolside Party started an hour later but who cared. It had to be moved inside due to unexpected rain but rain did not dampen the fun and laughter and sense of good time. This party was arranged to raise much needed funds for NCSF. Glenda Rider was there to promote the NCSF. We also met an icon of BDSM/Leather who has part of her roots in Tulsa, OK, Vi Johnson. The way she says my name "Maleeek" is endearing to me. She is on of the most respected person in our community. We took the time to browse through her Library which is a treasurer for our generation and generations to come. She is a living legend among our midst and we were honored to be in her presence.
The party boasted carnival type games around the room. The theme of this year Black Beat was "Wild West" and one can sees cowboys and cowgirls everywhere. The staff of the hotel and non-kink guests also seem to enjoy this gathering. Participants of the event were extra careful and respectful to non-kink people and, to my knowledge, there were no complaints against any body or against any activity. We all exhibited common sense discretion and it worked.
One of the game was a contest of kneeling on rice. slave Cathy was the first to kneel and she stayed there for 30 minutes. She set the bar pretty high. The winner endured 45 minutes of kneeling on the rice. At the end of his time, he was profusely sweating and was unable to stand for several minutes. It was a difficult contest. Another game was to hit several empty soda cans with sling shot and make them fall. I tried and I tried and I tried. In the end, there were only two people who were able to knock all those damn cans down. We had the fun and lot of laughter at the toughness of those cans which were the same as incompetence with a dollar general store sling.

Another game was where you try to land a little white ball in on of the several glasses half full of colored water. I got lucky and landed two of them. I won two raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the several baskets. I was not lucky the second time but fact of the matter was that we were lucky to be there among friends and like minded people and were not restricted to do what we do within our tribe.

All in all, when everything was said and done, this party raised more than $600 for NCSF. This shows the generosity of people who attended this gathering prior to the main event. We also went to couple of pre-conference After parties and before we realized, it was midnight. We called it a night.

Is kneeling on rice that challenging? I suppose, over time, it begins to cause myriad little pains. Very interesting... ^_^

We had a "carnival" type scene here a couple years back. We had balls and a sling shot and a bottom's bottom poking out of a sheet of plywood. The board was covered with balloons with prizes in them but of course peoples aim was for the bottom!

With a sling shot and balls - there were three (or was it four) "bulls eyes" (as it were). And the damn balls stuck in the 'target'!!

So maybe it was the target of cans vs bottoms that create better aim!
